The Hidden Ways You Isolate

Steps For Healing Social Avoidance and Creating a Life You Love

A 90-Min Zoom Webinar

with Anna Runkle

Many of us who grew up with trauma find it hard to feel connected with other people. It can feel like the disconnection is caused entirely by other people, and by the social rejection, abuse or bullying to which they’ve subjected us, but there are dozens of ways we may not realize that we pull away too. We go through the motions of a connected life, but we hold people at arm’s length. We keep conversations superficial, we accept invitations but then cancel at the last minute, and we postpone doing things that give us joy until some future day when (we believe) life will feel easier. This is what I call “covert avoidance.”

We want to feel supported and close to our friends and loved ones, but with unhealed trauma wounds, social interactions can feel so stressful and overwhelming, we become unconsciously motivated to isolate. People may not notice we do it, but the hidden ways we isolate will gradually push them away, leaving us feeling empty and alone. Luckily, you can heal this.

In this webinar I’ll talk about the ways trauma in your past may be triggering avoidant behaviors in you, even when you crave connection with others. I’ll show you how to recognize when it’s happening, and teach you steps you can take to step gently back into the connected life where you belong.
